Board of Directors
KIM SUMLIN
President
With nearly three decades of experience in education, Kim has taught and tutored from elementary to high school levels, participated in various PTA committees and boards, and co-founded an educational foundation for a local elementary school in Atlanta, Georgia. She profoundly believes in nurturing the whole child and recognizes every child's potential to learn.
Kim's study of Ellen Tadd’s Framework for Wise Education at Creative Lives Inc. awakened a passion to get this training into the hands of as many educators as possible. Kim believes the Framework approach is unique in equipping educators to teach the whole student, irrespective of a young person’s academic standing, the subject matter they are studying, or their previous experiences. In addition, Framework strategies help students gain the self-knowledge required to become more responsible for their own learning—an invaluable asset in school and life.
Kim graduated from Emory University and moved on to earn her Georgia Educator Certification from Georgia State. Her international living and travel experiences, her degree in International Relations, and a background in psychology have enriched her perspective on schooling and child development.
Kim first became acquainted with Ellen Tadd’s work via her friendship with Laura Tadd, Ellen’s daughter. Ellen's work resonated with Kim as she moved through a transitional period in her life. Kim sees A Framework for Wise Education as a fulfilling means to continue her lifelong love of learning.

Dan Furst serves as a technician in the film industry, on locations in the United States and abroad. His work is both technical and interpersonal, enabling him to be analytical in solving problems, yet open to the unpredictability that makes living an active journey.
Dan is a human in progress. He began working with Ellen Tadd’s teachings in 2000-01 while working in Public Radio in Boston; a seminal takeaway from this experience was to recognize what clarity is and how it feels, which has helped him navigate both his professional and personal life. In 2020, Dan dug deeper into Ellen’s teachings, joining a study and practice group on her book, “The Infinite View,” and continued this practice throughout the pandemic. As work resumed in the film industry, Dan’s studies have helped him see new opportunities for living up to his potential.
As a Board member, Dan seeks to help Creative Lives open its potential to a wider audience through his experience in mass communication and his tendency to think of novel solutions in unconventional ways.
