When children lead the way.

J.R., an early educator and parent enrolled in our Foundations-1 training shared the following reflection about a challenging parenting moment — and her daughter’s response. In this story, her daughter refers to learning The Tadd Technique for shifting out of emotional overwhelm to clarity:

I have three kids. My youngest is five, my next one is seven, and my oldest one is 10.

My 5-year-old has ASD [Autism Spectrum Disorder]. So sometimes his behavior is really challenging. We were having a moment where he was freaking out because he couldn't have goldfish before dinner. And he started hitting and screaming and jumping up and down. At the same time, my seven-year-old had just hurt herself…And so she was crying and screaming.

At that moment, I just needed a minute because I was feeling very overwhelmed. I took a deep breath and put my hands over my eyes. My 10-year-old came right over and said, “It's okay, Mommy. You can find your third eye!”

And instantly, I busted out laughing and said, “Oh, you're listening to the class Zoom calls,” and she said, "Yeah, and I've been doing it, too. In those moments where I feel really angry and frustrated and out of control, I just find my 3rd eye, like the lady in your class said. And I turn on my 3rd eye light in school, too!” And I said, "Okay, I'm glad you are loving this. This is great!"
